Charlie Grossen (8 jaar) en Mira Pang (12 jaar) hebben de tekenwedstrijd WiseNight 2024 gewonnen. Een dikke proficiat aan de twee kunstenaars, die voor een jaar een "museumpass" hebben ontvangen. Wij wensen hen een mooi leven vol wetenschap en kunst!

Ann Van der Jeugd, présidente de BeWiSe, a déclaré : « Les objectifs européens d’égalité des genres ne seront pas atteints sans une augmentation significative du nombre d’étudiantes choisissant les sciences comme matières. Non seulement risquons-nous de perdre des scientifiques potentiels, mais les femmes passent également à côté d’études et de carrières inspirantes et passionnantes. WiseNight cherche à changer cela et à remettre en question le stéréotype de la science comme une pratique réservée aux hommes solitaires. La recherche scientifique est passionnante. Elle s’adresse à tous les esprits curieux et se caractérise par le travail d’équipe et le travail de terrain. Elle est cruciale pour protéger la santé de la planète, d’autant plus que nous sommes confrontés aux effets dévastateurs de l’urgence climatique et de la perte de biodiversité. Avec WiseNight, nous visons à montrer aux jeunes de tous âges, en particulier aux filles, les opportunités variées et passionnantes qu’ils peuvent avoir dans les carrières scientifiques et comment ils peuvent faire la différence aujourd’hui et pour les générations futures. La première édition de WiseNight a eu lieu pendant la pandémie de Covid et a malgré tout été un succès. Cette année, nous visons une participation encore plus large et un impact plus important.”

Ann Van der Jeugd, President of BeWiSe said: “The European targets of gender equality won’t be reached without a significant increase in the number of women students choosing science as their subjects. Not only do we risk losing potential scientists, but women also miss out on inspiring and exciting studies and careers. WiseNight seeks to change that and challenge the stereotype of science as a lone male preserve. Scientific research is exciting. It is for the curious and characterised by teamwork and fieldwork. It is crucial for protecting the health of the planet, particularly as we face the devastating impacts of the climate emergency and biodiversity loss. With WiseNight we aim to show young people of all ages, especially girls, the varied and exciting opportunities they can have in scientific careers and how they can make a difference now and to future generations. The first edition of WiseNight took place during the Covid-pandemic and was nevertheless a success. This year, we aim for a larger participation and long term impact.”

Ann Van der Jeugd, voorzitter van BeWiSe, zei: “De Europese doelstellingen inzake gendergelijkheid zullen niet worden gehaald zonder een significante stijging van het aantal vrouwelijke studenten dat wetenschap als studierichting kiest. We lopen niet alleen het risico potentiële wetenschappers kwijt te raken, maar vrouwen lopen ook inspirerende en opwindende studies en carrières mis. WiseNight wil daar verandering in brengen en de stereotypering doorbreken dat wetenschap een eenzame mannenzaak is. Wetenschappelijk onderzoek is fascinerend. Het draait om passie, teamwork en is er voor iedereen met een onverzadigbare nieuwsgierigheid. Wetenschappelijk onderzoek is van cruciaal belang voor de bescherming van onze planeet, vooral nu we geconfronteerd worden met de verwoestende gevolgen van de klimaatcrisis en het verlies aan biodiversiteit. Met WiseNight willen we jongeren van alle leeftijden, en vooral meisjes, laten zien welke gevarieerde en boeiende mogelijkheden een wetenschappelijke loopbaan te bieden heeft en hoe zij nu en voor toekomstige generaties een verschil kunnen maken. De eerste editie van WiseNight vond plaats tijdens de Covid-pandemie en was desalniettemin een succes. Dit jaar streven we naar een grotere deelname en impact op lange termijn.”
